I search barred, but I didn't get a lot of help.

I'm looking for a new computer, as I'll be off at college next year without the family's ol steady desktop. I really don't want to spend any more than I have to, but here's what I see me needing it for.

I'll be typing papers
surfing the Internet
Listening to music
watching movies
Using Fruityloops 9

That's the big kicker. I'm noticing the computer I'm on right now loses grip when I start running multiple tracks in fruity loops and I don't want that with the new computer I get. I assume its a RAM issue, but I'm no computer guy so who knows. But basically, I don't need anything crazy except I wanna run fruityloops from it smoothly and possibly use it on stage in my band for electro stuff or with an MIDI controller. But that's a whole other issue.

What's my cheapest route with this? Any general guidance?

Thanks a lot in advance!
