Adobe Illustrator and, on occasion, Photoshop (I try to use Photoshop sparingly).

well how do you print them off bigger than just a sheet of paper?

I've made like actual posters for my band, if that's the kind of thing you're talking about. Get them printed at on office supply place (we're talking like Staples or Office Depot), or go through something like Zazzle.

well i've always used the stupid and poor method i guess, i used a progam called posterazor and it prints the image onto several pieces of paper in like little bits of the image and then you glue them all together kind of like a puzzle

*edit* Mean Mr Mustard beat me to the idea lol
