This makes absolutely no sense, in the context in which many claim

I may be slightly ignorant here, but is this an American thing?

For the record, it's "couldn't care less", implying that you that you care so little, it's actually impossible to care less

It's not something I generally care about (really, I wish I couldn't care less), but it's such a pain in the arse to read

Yes, I believe it's an American thing. They like taking phrases that make perfect sense and ruining them.

And this is because of my post in the mosque thread, isn't it?

I could care less.
^^The above is a Cryptic Metaphor^^

"To know the truth of history is to realize its ultimate myth and its inevitable ambiguity." Everything is made up and the facts don't matter.

it only makes sense if you add 'as if' or 'like'.

But it still sounds stupid.

It in Lemoninfluence's examples:
"As if I could care less"
"Like I care less"

But in general, I'm with you, it's supposed to be "couldn't" and it bothers me too.

No, it's not. You've stopped the world turning. You and your crime against language.

But really, I'm gonna keep repeating my point because it REALLY bugs me. It's not hard to remember to say it properly.

anyone who says "I could care less" is an idiot. Should anyone ever say "I could care less", it's time to stop arguing with them. Everything they have brought up is automatically the ramblings of an idiot.

Y'know what's worse? People who say "Same difference" instead of same thing. No, it's not the same difference, it's the same thing.

No, it's not an American thing. It's a person who doesn't knowhow2English thing. While many Americans may have a poor grasp of the English language, it should not be assumed that this erroneous phrase is common to or perceived as logical by all Americans.

Y'know what's worse? People who say "Same difference" instead of same thing. No, it's not the same difference, it's the same thing.

I heartily agree.
