hey anyone know of artists that feature the mandolin? and also, although in the wrong forum, any good books for learning to play the mandolin?
The song 'Ripple' by the Grateful Dead has a cool mandolin part. Great song, too. There's other Dead songs with mandolin parts (they were friends with a good mandolinist, I think), but I can't remember any of their names off the top of my head, sorry.

you should check out some progressive bluegrass. i know sounds really funny but its very good. a lot of it is very jammy and not so old school bluegrass twangy stuff.
check out:
yonder mountian string band
hot buttered rum
the punch brothers

if your willing to explore a new genre to learn a new instrument those three bands should give you plenty of material to learn from.
