I'm currently shopping around for some good quilted maple in order to use for the top of a strato-caster that I am building. I am located in Southern California if that helps. If anyone here knows of some good lumber yards I would really appreciate you posting.

*I've been looking through yellow pages. Mostly found construction type places.

The only wood that I can get here, is Oak(pretty rare), Pine, cedar, Spruce, Birtch, and a couple others.

Not very many of those are tonewoods. So I just go on eBay. Shipping is a bitch though.

Do you guys no anything about a place called Austin Hardwoods? That seems like they would have the right types of wood

first try woodfinder to find lumber dealers near you:
http://www.woodfinder.com/

if nothing is close by, order online. here's a few good websites:

http://www.northridgehardwoods.com/index.html
https://secure.thewoodwell.com/
http://www.gilmerwood.com

and of course Ebay (found great deals a few times).

the internet is my only option, no exotic/figured lumber dealers anywhere near me.

Check out local lumber yards on woodfinder. You may have trouble finding quilted wood though. It's generally not carried in lumber yards.

Ebay is the best place for tonewoods in my experience. I found the best quilt top I've ever seen in my entire life, scored it for about $160, and now it adorns my favorite custom guitar .
Custom guitars, vintage amps, boutique pedals. Blah, blah, blah.
