Alright, guys. I was writing some riffs for this band I'm in and one of the guys recognized a riff but he couldn't quite put a finger on where he heard it. He said the riff has definitely been written by someone else. I really can't say I remember hearing it anywhere.

|-9-----10-9-----7-9-----9-10-8-7-|
|-7-----8--7-----5-7-----7-8--7-5-|

I can't exactly Google a riff, so maybe someone recognizes it?

i think this is a Mozart tune.
i mean the weird time sigs and key changes all point to the work of Mozart.
that might also be a my chemical romance song.

It's a very generic structure. I would be surprised if it hadn't been used before.

Not having played it, it looks like a really generic metal riff.

It might actually be 100% yours, but I'm sure it sounds similar to lots of things.

It's not by God, that's for sure.

As my old guitar teacher once said: Metal really comes from classical music. The only difference is pinch harmonics, double bass, and lyrics about killing goats.

Looks pretty standard. Use it anyway if you like it. It will sound great if it's in the context of a good song.

Looks kind of like Blood and Thunder by Mastodon but it's not quite it. I agree with generic thrash riff.

Yeah it's just a really really generic thrash riff. They all sound pretty much the same.

Sounds to me like a hash-up of The Judas Kiss by Metallica or Blood And Thunder by Mastodon.
I shall grant you three wishes.

None of which will work.

Does the above post enrage, offend or confuse you?

Good.

Sounds like a riff from a song by Children of Bodom. I can't think of it though.

I thought the same, and it looked similar in structure to Sixpounder though in a different key (I assume OP's tab is in E Standard), at least the first parts anyway. Has less open gallops though, and the ending is original, though typical. Good luck with it dude.

TS, it's fine to use. It's a generic riff, and as long as you don't rely heavily on that specific riff then it's fine.

Keep in mind though, none of us have a clue as to the rhythm of it.

This.

Just use it. It's not ripping off any specific song (at least what we know of).

I'm at work and thus don't have a guitar to blast that out on, but looking at it it sort of reminds me of a gunshot to the head of trepidation by trivium

Yeah I thought Sixpounder as soon as I saw it too.

To be honest there's nothing wrong with a few generic riffs for verses and small parts but that cannot be your main riff because it's just way too bland.

Halo FTW

But seriously, it's not the Halo riff. Generic thrash riff is more likely.

thats a generic thrash riff, reminds me of the four horsemen main riff and creeping death breakdown.
