Whats the name for the type of microphone used to record drums and guitar and bass? (and maybe some vocals too)

Shure SM57 is good for instruments, SM58 is good for vocals.

There are 3 basic types of mics, Dynamic, Condenser, and Ribbon mics.

You use phantom on condensers and they are products such as they Rode NT1A or MXL
990.

Dynamics like the Shure SM57 and SM58 are very common in studios and are great for most applications.

Ribbons are expensive and usually used mostly for things like room pickup as reverb on drums and such.

There is no "proper mic" for things like drums or any specific instrument. I highly suggest reading "Tweaks Guide" though.
