I've been trying to find some new bands to listen to, but most of the thrash metal or metalcore bands I've listened to pretty much scream all the way through the song.

I like screaming when it's done tastefully, but all the way through the song just spoils it.

Any recommendations?

Listen to UNDEROATH. THey are more of a post hardcore band but they have a clean vocalist and a "screamer (no not like that)". The screaming is kind of in the back it's not in your face so to say. They have to guitarist and a keyboard player so their songs have a lot of melodies in them and their drummer is pretty good.

I thought surely every metalcore band has screaming, since the -core bit comes from 'hardcore punk' which was all about shouting the vocals.

There's tons of thrash bands without ridiculously OTT vocals though, though all the ones I know have been mentioned.

The point of underground bands is their not popular or famous most of the time. Thus there is a good chance they suck.

3 out of the 4 "Big Four" thrash bands don't really scream...so I'd say that's a good starting point (Metallica, Megadeth, Anthrax). From there I'd get into Testament, those bands are the typical starting points in thrash.

If you really need help finding thrash without screaming here's a few bands off the top of my head....

Testament.

Unlike Metallica, Testament gets more thrashy with each successive album and even crossed over into death/thrash with Low, Demonic and The Gathering.

Their latest album, The Formation of Damnation is the greatest piece of thrash to come out in probably a decade, possibly even the best since the mid-90's.

Be prepared to be beaten soundly and screamed at a lot, though.

Either recommend Jesse Leach-era Killswitch or run along and let the big boys talk.

Metalcore is pretty much all harsh vocals or a mix of harshes and cleans. For thrash, there's tons of bands that do clean singing.

Next time, post this in the recommendation thread.

I'll try not to be a dick, but dude nearly every thrash band I listen to sings.

I don't know man, Thrash never screams, maybe sometimes but very rarely.
As far as metalcore with clean singing, many bands incorporate the clean singing as an aspect of their sound but really it's impossible to find a metalcore band that actually just does cleans all the time. Personally, I think Metalcore with clean vocals would be kind of odd, it would just take away all the power it has. Don't get me wrong, I do love it when it's placed in songs though for like a chorus or something.

The only recommendation I have is All That Remains new album and yeah your talking to like a huge core junkie here so yeah.

Hey, this is the metal forum. We are the best, brightest, and best ever. Better than the best, as a matter of fact. Which previously was us, but then we beat us to the ground.

Use the rec thread at the top of the page, it's there for a reason.

However, I find that Toxik - Think This might be up your alley.

When you go to the rec thread, ask for some faster paced heavy metal, might be more to your liking.
