I've heard the term "hybrid" amp around the forums and I was wondering.

What's a hybrid amp?

Out of both the pre amp and power amp, one is solid state, the other valve.
Strictly speaking if it combines valves and transistors then it is a hybrid. That makes a HT-5 and a JCM900 a hybrid. However, as long as most people see both sizes of valve when they look in the back they call it a valve amp (or a tube amp if you are American). It's only when they see only power valves OR preamp valves but not both that they call it a hybrid. It's another term taken by guitarists and twisted beyond recognition (like gain).
