Well actually, Dylan wrote it but liked Hendrix's version so much that he gave him the song.

Hendrix. I suspect the poll will be overwhelming in Hendrix's favor, for good reason.

I was going to post this exact thing man. and i prefer Hendrix's version, even if Dylan wrote it he gave it to Hendrix because he liked his version so much.

Believe me, I definitely appreciate Dylan's work, but Hedrix does everything you can do on a guitar in that one song, so I give it to Jimi.

Personally, Im going with Dave Matthews Band. The slow build up that breaks out into full out jam.

Bob Dylan wrote one hell of song there didnt he.
"Music became a healer for me. And I learned to listen with all my being. I found that it could wipe away all the emotions of fear and confusion relating to my family." Eric Clapton

Hendrix's version is just so much better, there's really no comparison. Still a great song in the first place, though.

Bob Dylan wrote it.
Hendrix did the guitar.
so.
without the lyrics it wouldn't be much of a song at all.
Both are great versions.
On playing the Paul Gilbert signature at the guitar store extensively, my missus sighed:
"Put it down now, It's like you love that guitar more than me!"
In Which I replied.
"Well it has got two F-Holes!"

Hendrix's version is timeless. I love it.

I agree that Dave does it best. But I like this one video of him doing at MSG best. His breaks a strings at the near end. Warren Haynes Leads are just smoking on this to. The energy is just flowing.

the dave matthews version is pretty good, but i can never understand what that guy is saying.

takes away from it a bit.

that being said, my favoritve version that i've heard was actually neil young with booker t & the mgs

As much as I appreciate Dylan's song writing skills, I very much prefer Hendrix's version.
The harmonica in the original drives me mad.

EDIT: ^ What the deuce? The harmonica is awesome

They're both really good songs, I have no preference.

This.

They both are great for different moments. I prefer listening to the Dylan version, but the Hendrix version is my favorite to jam on with some friends.

Jimi's is so much better than Dylans. The Fratellis did a descent version of it too.
#26
Depends on my mood. I like how bleak Dylan's version is, I like how strong Hendrix's version is.

He played with Jimi on his version so I think he's entitled to play it however he likes.
His version is my favorite. Has been for decades.

I like the pureness of Dylans, but I also like Hendrix's solo.

For the solo, I'd go with Hendrix.

I like the version Eddie Vedder did the best. I'll try to find a link, and post it.
