Has anyone got any opinions on Sound City cabs? There's a 4x12 Sound City cab on my classifieds for 230USD. Here's pics:

Those don't look like good speakers but maybe it's some hidden gem I've never heard of? lol.

Sound city AMPS were supposed to be quite good back in the day.
So if their cabs are of the same quality, they should be alright.

Those are Fane speakers apparently:

I heard Gilmour used Fane Crescendos. I wonder what these are like...

any idea what year? i have no idea what drivers those are.

sound city cabs were known for running fane speakers in them, but they ran many others as well depending on era and us/uk distribution from what i can tell. fanes were also known to be loaded with squarebacks and celestions as well. in general they put those stickers on their OEM, but the company location is on there,

so if you can get a closeup of the speaker you can tell the manufacturer, like celestion would be made in ipswich, england.

From looking at the Sound City research site, I'm pretty sure they're Fane speakers.
So this cab was made for Dallas Arbiter and not DMI?

Dallas Arbiter made Sound City stuff IIRC. There was some relation between the two.

Sound City amplifiers were the brainchild of Dave Reeves. He left the company and tweaked the design a bit to create the legendary Hiwatt amplifiers. Sound City amps and cabinets were outstanding gear. Be warned, though. That cabinet is obviously from the glory days of Sound City, which was from about 1965 to 1973. As such, it is old and may have been abused as well as used. One of the speakers in the picture appears to be a replacement. If it is in good shape, it is likely a vintage gem. If not, it is an honored veteran that is well past its prime.

Yup one of them was replaced with a Fender speaker:

The seller put the item as "70% new", and it seems to be in decent condition. I'll probably have to pass though. There's no way I can use a 4x12 cab properly in my tiny apartment.

Sure you can. Your neighbors will hate you and you'll get to know the local police very well, but you can do it. I've done it for years. Of course, you could always turn it down!

I'd pass on it, though. It has probably been beaten to death over the years. There are better cabinets for you out there.
