What are some of the best fingerpicked blues songs out there?
Man: "I'd like to call you. What's your number?"
Woman: "It's in the phone book."

Man: "But I don't know your name."
Woman: "That's in the phone book too."

Well... I dunno....I heard a snippet of Mayer playing "Crossroads" during one of those movie-theater before-the-show entertainment programs and it was seriously dreadful...

Check out the roots of fingerstyle blues playing. First, go to YouTube and check out the many dozens of classic blues recordings there. Many of these old masters played some variation of fingerstyle.
Then, jump up to the next generation of guys who learned from these masters. Dave Van Ronk, David Bromberg, Jorma Koukkonnen, Chris Smithers....

There is a huge body of this material to work on, and many fine books available as well.
