So after finishing my last bass build, I'm going onto the next build.

This time, I hope to improve on all the mistakes I made on the last build.

I've got some quilted maple and mahogany:

Here's my current idea for the body shape:

So here's some specs:

Quilt maple front/back with a mahogany core.

Bolt-on 5pc maple/mahogany neck, with a 24 fret rosewood fretboard.
2 bass humbuckers.
ACG Filter preamp rather than the usual cut/boost type.
Chrome hardware.

Should be gluing up the body blank this weekend!

Sweet! What PU brand?

Probably going for Wizard pickups. I bought a set of Musicman style ones from them for my previous build and they sound pretty good.

What I really want is super wide aperture, but I'd rather not spend over £150 for the pair. The wizards would be £140, so that would be good.

The preamp comes in at £200! . Worth it though.

Chris that body is screaming for an offset waist. See if Andy at wizard will knock you up a set of his jazz bass combo pickups in a five string configuration and you'll have a versatile beast of a bass

I love your body shape mate, looks damn sexy. In fact I love everything about your plans! What are you planning on for finish?

Tru-oil on the neck, nitro or tru-oil for the body. Haven't quite decided yet.

And thanks

Right, update time.

Unfortunately, I'm unable to continue working on this as I've moved to London and have no access to woodworking equipment such as a bandsaw to cut the body or router to route pickup cavities.

Unless anyone has any ideas as to where/how I can get into a workshop to continue working on this, I'll be waiting till probably the end of the year when I can get back into a workshop.

This bass is looking nice. Like the body shape, reminds me of my bass that i tried to build. However that one was shite unfortunately.

I can sympathise with your problem. I live in London too on the fifth floor, no garage, garden or workshop access. I've managed to work between a fire escape/balcony 3ft wide and a spare room in the flat, but it ain't fun having to spend an hour hoovering wood dust off the walls after routing. I'm moving to the West Country in two weeks and for almost half the rent I'm paying here, I can get a garage and garden... I can't wait!

Hope it all works out and you can continue building soon.
