Heyy, so i'm modding a tele which is humbucker bridge and single coil neck. I've chosen the Custom 5 in the bridge as its a hot vintage voiced pickup, and that's what i'm going for. I was a vintage style tele that i can use in my hardcore/punk band.

Only problem is i need a single coil for the neck. I'll be using the neck for cleans and occasionally too add warmth to lead work and such, so i need something as close as possible in terms of output but still keeping a bit of a vintage edge if possible.

Thanks

DiMarzio Area T. Hum canceling with medium output. Very classic sounding. A friend of mine has the Area T set in a squier CV tele and they sound fantastic. Suprisingly controllable under high-gain. The neck p-up still sounds like a tele too.

I'd go for an SD Quarter Pounder. It has enough output to match the Custom 5 without having to be really close to the strings to do so and tonally it's a decent bridge between really classic Tele neck tones and a slightly more aggressive modern pickup. It is to vintage Tele neck pickups what the Custom 5 is to vintage bridge humbuckers; bigger, louder, crisper but still very classic-sounding.
Yes, I know everything. No, I can't play worth a damn.

What's the Dimarzio Area T like for cleans? As that's what i'll mostly be using it for.

I've heard the Quarter Pounder is quite muddy sounding with the cover on, and i know its a bit silly, but i did want to keep it with the cover on so it still looks old school (Despite having a HB in the bridge).

Does anyone know what the Seymour Duncan STR-2 Hot for Tele Rhythm pup is like?

Here's a couple videos with the Area T (not mine).

All neck version.

Only the beginning is the neck version.

I have some GFS rails in my tele copy, and the neck doesn't get the same sparkle as the stock p-up did. It has a lot more lows and low-mids than a standard single coil.
