I am looking at buying a new amplifier. I can spend about 800$ USD. I play hard rock, classic rock, some jazz and some clean stuff. I use a Gibson Les Paul Studio Silverburst with coil tap. Any suggestions would be a huge help. Thank you!

Mesa Lonestar.

I've never heard of a Mesa Lonestar going that cheap.

Can you go used?

Are the Marshall MAs nice? I love Marshall tone with a Paul and that's in my price range.

For the price I would just get a Ceriatone Marshall clone. If you want a more versatile channel switching Marshall sound, check out the Mesa Stiletto or Electra-Dyne.

There's something you might like for the tone that made the Les Paul > Marshall setup famous.

I prefer new.

An Egnater Rebel 20 might be right up your alley if you don't mind a single-channel amp. If you do mind, I think it's worth it to drop the extra $100 on the Rebel 30, which I can say from firsthand experience is a wonderful amp.

Besides those, you have some other options:

Blackstar HT Club 40
Traynor YCV40
Kustom The Defender V50
Jet City JCA2112RC

^Not in any particular order

But seriously, if you could go used, you could really get some great amps, like a Mesa Mark III, Mesa DC Series, Hughes & Kettner Statesman, or even an Engl Sovereign if you're lucky.

They're decent amps, but you can do way better for the money. I'd go with any of the amps I listed above well before I bought a Marshall MA.

And @PerpetualBurn: Ceriatone has very nice kits for what appears to be a good price, but they get you on shipping. http://www.ceriatone.com/Rates/WebRev4/USA_4.htm

But this seems like a good compromise between the risk of buying used on the open market and the lack of cost-effectiveness when buying new: http://www.ceriatone.com/Rates/WebRev4/USA_4.htm

Yeah I forgot to mention that you might really like the Jet City amps. Check those out as well. About 700-800 new for the 100 watt head, but you probably only need the 20 watt.

What's ceriatone? I've never heard of it.

Ceriatone is a company that sells "clones" of certain famous amps, like Marshalls, Fenders, and Dumbles. They have very similar circuits, and lots of people like them, but as I posted earlier, their shipping rates are unbelievable and make the amps almost not worth it. You also have to be able to assemble the kits yourself to really save any money at all.

So overall I should try to find a used Mesa boogie amp in my price range? It seems like everyone has recommended that brand.

Overall, Mesa/Boogie makes great amps, especially when you're looking for a good value used. The Mark III and DC series are some of the best amps available without spending over a grand. Of course, the other amps I mentioned, especially that Hughes and Kettner I linked you to, are very good as well.

EDIT: Crap, my link was wrong. Here's the Hughes and Kettner you should check out: http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/product/Hughes-&-Kettner-Statesman-Series-STM-Quad-EL84-40W-1x12-Tube-Guitar-Combo-Amp?sku=483013#used

And also, the amp clone industry, be it Ceriatone, Metropolous, or even Bugera, isn't flat out BS. They make excellent amps for the most part, it's just that the average guitar player can't justify the cost and hassle of those sorts of amps.

I don't really want to pay almost as much $ for an amp that ill have to assemble so I'm going to stick with well-known brands. Btw I can't seem to find a Mesa amp for less than 1300$
#17
I don't want you to get the wrong idea about clones, to be clear most of the mid-high end Marshall clones including Ceriatone are a lot better than the reissues that Marshall is currently putting out. Often times they are handwired as well, at about half the price of a new Marshall.

I've never bought anything that expensive used, no. Although it's probably safe, you can still go for any of the amps I linked you to for absolutely great tone with more certainty that you're getting a product that's in good condition.

i would second the egnater movement. at least check out the rebel 20 or 30. the tube mix is nice, the reverb is among the best i have heard built into an amp. the stock tubes are actually pretty good, so you wouldn't have to replace them out of the box (like most other amps). they are a good quality build, and are very versital, and would satisfy every genre you play.

Dude, do you understand the concept of "Not in his price range"? You've recommended Ceriatones, Renegades, Mesas, and all manner of amps that are not even within $100 of what this guy wants to spend.

if anything most of those clones are far closer to the "real thing" than modern marshalls are (even when you're talking about modern marshall reissues). that being said, they're probably out of your price range.

traynor ycvs are pretty nice, they're around the $600 mark. the 40 is more fendery, the 50 more marshally (i've only tried the 40), so they might be worth looking into.
