I've decided to change the neck on my strat to a maple one. My strat is a left handed american standard. It is hard to find a decent quality lefty neck at a reasonable price. Would a right handed neck fit on it?

I have to confess, I am not sure. If I had to answer I would say no because I would not want you to buy somthing you could not use(assuming it would not fit).

Why even post then?

I'm pretty sure that the neck pocket on a left and a right are the same. Just gotta reverse the nut.

1. you will have to replace the nut
2. you can order a lefty neck from warmoth

Yeah, Try Warmoth First, and order a left-handed neck, that is where you can get a good quality neck for a decent price.

It will work, but you won't have the fret markers on the side of then neck. I'd suggest getting a lefty neck from warmoth (general consensus is they are pretty good) Any one have any comments on the mighty mite necks on ebay? I was also thinking of getting a maple neck for my strat.

Warmoth necks are noticeably more expensive than buying an american fender neck. Are they really better quality than fender necks?

With Warmoth neck you get to customize to your own preferences. With Fender neck you stuck with their spec. I don't think quality will differ much.

i'm happy with Fenders specs. I really like the neck on my strat at the moment except for the RW board.

of course the tuners will be on the 'wrong' side, but i think that looks pretty cool, a la hendrix.

not true about the price, and absolutely for the quality

there are a couple american strat necks on ebay for $295-$350

warmoth's left handed in-stock maple strat necks are $145-$157. then add in price for a finish (gloss or nitro [definitely recommend the nitro, feels awesome!]) and the price for whatever kind of nut you want. using this one (http://www.warmoth.com:80/Showcase/ShowcaseNeck.aspx?Body=1&Shape=1&Type=1&Path=Neck,Strat,Warmoth%20Pro&sort=price&i=SN8277) as an example it comes out to $245 without tuners. plus warmoth's necks are amazing. great attention to detail and set up perfectly out of the box. at least all mine have been.

^I live in Ireland so shipping + customs will add a lot of money onto that.

ah very very good point.. in that case a good old fender neck might be the best option. warmoth's products are the best! but international shipping fees can really kill that pretty quickly.
