I got a Mesa Studio a couple of months ago but never got around to using it.

Just plugged it in now using the "recording outs" into a Epiphone Valve junior and I have noticed that when in Standby I can hear the guitar coming through the VJ at about half the level of when the standby is off. (also tried in another amp and same happened)

I can't imagine this is normal behaviour... Any ideas?

your not meant to plug a preamp into a 'recording out'

As for the swim team member that drowned, it just means the swim team just got a lot better. Same with him too, it's time to move on, the weakest link is gone...

^ Pretty sure he used the recording outs on the preamp and put that signal into the VJ.

Read it more closely.
