I own a few delay pedals, including the DL4 which I love, but if I had to choose only one delay pedal, it would be the boss DD-20. It sounds better, and has a more reliable interface in my opinion.

I love my DL-4 personally.

Also to consider are the Digitech Timebender, Boss DD-20, TC Electronic Nova Delay, or for a little bit more, you could find an Electro-Harmonix Deluxe Memory Man. Granted, these are the at-new prices. Used you could probably get a lot better.

The key is to just take your time and try out as many as possible.

I'll second the Nova for stereo use.

Do you want a Delay pedal with a looper? Do you prefer Analog or Digital?

Analog: EHX DMM, it's amazing, I haven't been able to pick one up yet, but it's on my list, I currently use a MXR Carbon Copy

Digital: Boss DD-20

I need both an analog and digital delay to get all the sounds i want. I had the Line 6 but quickly returned it for the boss. The boss sounds and feels better. Line 6 is also known to be less reliable.

I love my MXR Carbon Copy. Gets a mix of love and hate on this board, though...
