I have a guitar with a TOM bridge and just wondering if when you're adjusting intonation, do you have to detune the string you're adjusting? Or can you just go ahead and turn the screw?

i de-tune the string just slightly to turn the screw more easily, but it doesnt matter with a TOM bridge.
so yes. de-tuning is not required

basically this, if you want to be able to turn the screw with ease, detune those strings, like a bitch. and obviously, if you don't detune them, raising/lowering the intonation on the guitar will throw the stings out of tune a bit anyway
