How do you get the tone that John has? It sounds like he's playing on a clean channel, but I can't get my hammer-ons and tapping to sound nearly as full and good as his. Is there any tips/help/anything to tell me how he plays it like that?

Im no expert, but I figure I might as well throw in my advice.

The big part of his sound is just that he's got his hammer-ons and taps really clean and strong. Basically all you can do is just continue trying to practice them, until you are accurate and can tap hard and fast enough to match his sound.

Also, part of it is his tone. If you don't have a decent tube amp to use I'm not sure how well you will be able to match it. But he is playing on his neck pickup with his tone turned down some and his volume turned down just a tad bit so its not so punchy. Also, his EQ is probably set up with higher bass(8-9), a decent amount of mid(5-8), and some treble (3-5). It all depends on his amp.

Hope that helps.
