Today an interesting question hit me.

Quote by Wikipedia

Currently the chief sources of mother of pearl are the pearl oyster, freshwater pearl mussels, and to a lesser extent, abalone.

Although, that isn't citated.

So, all mother of pearl inlays are from a living creature.
Does does that mean Vegans can't play ANY Gibson? (Without being a hypocrite?)

TBH, this is rhetoric as the answer is no. Discuss.

Is there a punchline coming, or... ?

But, the Gibson logo is MOP, as well as the inlays. All sources from the shells of those creatures.
It's an interesting thing to notice.

FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU-

I wanna Gibson ES-335 and I'm vegan...

Some [cheaper, mid range] use Pearloid inlays, but you still have to check the logo.
And higher end models use real MOP.

But, Abalone is also not vegan-friendly [and my low/mid Strat has them. Not a bother to me though as I'm not a vegan]

I'm guessing it's probably a loose connection either at the jack or the pickup selector. The workmanship around those parts is notoriously poor.

Not trying to be offensive or anything, but you saying you're a vegan didn't surprise me at all, Fassa

That guitar is absolutely fantastic. The Lead guitarist in my band has one and it's just a thing of beauty.

Damn it...I really wanna ES335....and for the money, they'll almost certainly use real MoP.

Damn you Alex Lifeson!

Question, do epiphone guitars also use MOP inlays? If so, I may use this to freak out my vegi best friend.

Bone nuts.
Bone glue (in vintage and some CS guitars).

Wow, that too.
Even modern instruments still have animal products.
Although I kinda object to it, I don't really avoid it too much.

The higher end ones do, I think. Not the normal €200 - €400 ones, they're just plastic dots.

I feel really sorry for those all-vegan bands. I'm gonna check their instruments.

I'm a Veggie [not vegan though], and this slightly worries me, and even though I object to this, I have no reason why it will stop me buying a guitar I really like.

Actually, depending on the farm, the oysters can be kept alive and reused to grow pearls. This involves slicing a hole in the oyster every single time though.
