Can anyone tell me, if there is one, what tonal and cosmetic changes there are to a 60s vs 50s strat body.

As far as i can tell the only difference is the area where the electronics are, the 50s is straight all the way around, where the 60s is concaved so they can fit a screw there.

This is body shape, not pickguard screw placement FWIW.

You tell me:

1950's roadworn strat:

1960's roadworn strat:

As far as I can tell, there's virtually no cosmetic difference (in regard to body style) between a 1950s strat 1960s strat.

I doubt there's any major tonal difference either.

Yeah I think the 50s contours are a fair bit deeper.
Skeet UK is awesome, he can get WD Music parts discounted.

I suppose the only way to really tell if there is a tonal difference is to use the same hardware, electronics and neck on a 50s then 60s...

If anyone knows let me know!

...

Let you know what?

The bodies are essentially exactly alike. The real differences are in hardware, neck shape and electronics.

The contours aren't going to change anything in the sound really, it's just a couple grams of wood.
