Looking for a new amp, no dearer than about £400 but preferably closer to £300.
I play mainly 80s hard rock and metal, everything from guns n roses and motley crue to megadeth and candlemass. As far as i can tell the marshall jcm800 is the best for my style but i cant afford it. As far as i can see my only option at my budget would be a digital modelling amp like a spider III or peavy vypr.

Is it worth buying one of these two or are there any other options that would fit my budget?

Thanks in advance

would you be gigging?
if not you could look at something like a marshall class 5 or blackstar ht-5 and get a decent overdrive pedal

If I were you, I'd save up a bit, and then get a JCM800 combo, you'll probs be albe to score one for like £450-£600. Seeing as the 80's was all about hard-driven tube amps, that's what I'd go for.

If you can't save any money, then by all means do look into a Peavey Vypyr, or if you can find one, a second-hand Peavey VYpyr Tube 60 combo.

I don't know the conversion rate, but a Bugera 1990 which is a clone of the afformentioned jcm900 from marshall, is about $650 for both the head and cab and will easily do what you want. It will give that nice 80's tone and buy a nice overdrive pedal for a bit of boost and there you go.

Basically any marshall/british voiced mid/high gain amp and an od pedal will work for your

It won't go for much more than that IMO
infact i've seen them go for under 200.
Then you could pick up one of them cheap harley benton 2x12 from thomann with the celestion vintage 30s.

Yeah I'd wait on one of the Marshall suggestions used or maybe go with an 80s preamp like the ADA MP1?

Buy a used acoustic for £50 and practice on streetcorners until you make enough to buy a Bugera or a used Marshall.
