That's awesome. Superchristians will still say no to stem cell research.

It's not really a cure. He just hasn't relapsed yet.

You'll probably hear another news story shortly after saying the guy dropped dead.

Did you read the whole article?

I think this would kill more people than it cures. But good news for that guy who it worked for.

If the transplant doesn't kill them, the AIDS will. It's a risk I'd take.

This is a fantastic advancement.

Interesting that it had that effect but really this is far too risky for normal procedure especially given that HIV/AIDS isn't the death sentence it was 20 years ago.

Still any progress is excellent news.

It's a long way off, considering the surgery kills a lot of people, but still good news.

However, it does say that the patient has to be left with absolutely no immune system during the procedure which is why they can die, and I don't really see a way around that.

Quite a lot of new "cures" are dangerous at first, To be honest this is a much needed plus for stem cell research wouldn't you agree?

Guess most of you didn't read the part that said:
A stem cell transplant is too extreme and too dangerous to be used as a routine treatment, he said. "About a third of the people die [during such transplants], so it's just too much of a risk," Levy said. To perform a stem cell transplant, doctors intentionally destroy a patient's immune system, leaving the patient vulnerable to infection, and then reintroduce a donor's stem cells (which are from either bone marrow or blood) in an effort to establish a new, healthy immune system. Levy also said it's unlikely that the transplant truly cured the patient in this study. HIV can infect many other types of cells and may be hiding out in the patient's body to resurface at a later time, he said.

Oh well, one step at the time I guess.
