hey,

i thought i was getting bored of music but recently i've been getting a lot into Jazz music especially this "free jazz" genre which i can't really describe except it seems pretty random and fast to me.

Here's a good example what i mean http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dbVpx5-XYng&feature=related

If i wanna get into playing this type of music where should i start? i know the modes and few scales but do they follow anything in this?

cheers

Free jazz players can play outside, but they also have mastered inside playing. You need to learn how to play inside over chord changes and develop your ear and sense of interaction between musicians in a group. Ornette Coleman, one of the greatest innovators of free jazz would practice to the ultra melodic solos of Charlie Parker before he got into his explorations with outside playing. This is the path you need to follow if you wish to be taken seriously.
