Well, I have a problem here: I just bought a set of Dunlop Zakk Wylde's strings, I mean the heavy bottom ones (10-60) And I was wondering if could tune my guitar in standard tuning (eBGDAE), or if maybe it's too much tension for my guitar (Dean VMNTX Dave Mustaine Sig.), and I have to use lower tunings, like Drop D, Drop C, or tune everything half-step down? So, can I play in standard e?
Thanks people!!!

Dude! Totally have the same guitar! I really don't know about the strings, I usually play with boomers at 10-52 if i recall, and they seem fine in standard, i've even tuned up with them but it's your call with the 60's.

I ordered them on the internet There are even heavier strings, like the GHS Zakk Wylde's Boomers. I think they're almost the same, except for the low E string, which is a 70. Wylde is some crazy son of a %$# dudeee...

You just need your guitar set up to use those strings, any shop will do it for ya.

Zakk Wylde signature strings on a Dave Mustaine signature guitar. Let me guess what kind of music you like...

That seems AWFULLY thick for standard tuning. I wouldn't do it. Your truss rod won't be able to crank hard enough to offset that hahah.

EDIT: I play sludge in drop G/A with 14 - 60's.

the 10-60 might be a little top heavy and you'd want to drop tune. your guitar could handle it but I don't know about your fingers. That and it will be really unbalanced in E tuning.

Personally, with that gauge, I'd at the very LEAST go Half Step Down Drop D. Ideally I'd go Full Step Down Drop D.

Remember, Zakk uses Gibson Les Pauls and i'm pretty sure they have a scale length of 24'75 whereas the dean is a 25'5 scale. the 24'75 needs thicker strings to have the same tension as on the longer scale lengths.

been there down that got off before the last stop.

10-60 isn't that heavy but like I said it really isn't balanced.

In E standard the bottom strings will be really really loose and the top strings will be comparatively tight.

The proper tensioned set would be a 12-60 on a 24.75 guitar.

In E standard...wouldn't the bottom strings be extremely tight? Seeing as the low E is a 60, and its tuned up to standard...

I'd think that the Bottom Strings would be Overly tight, and the top strings would be just right.
