A Tele with a humbucker in the bridge... yummy.

The neck is looking pretty good from the pictures you showed.

EDIT: Sorry, I can't answer your question.

Not sure what that bit is, can you upload a photo that's not so close?

You could use a rasp, router, oscillating sander, or a sander attachment in a drill.

its the lower horn.

I just put a straight bit in the router and went around 4 times, about to go on my last, then ill sand it down to thefinal (~0.1mm left). Much easier then i thought. Ill do neck pocket tomorow and maybe control cavity/pickups.

This... or a rasp, followed by sanding. A drum/spindle sander would be easiest by far.

i decided to do it (no other option :P) to just run the router along the outside edge. I had on problem (went deep) on the inside horn and belly carve, but i was sub-consciously thinking about it before, so its all good.

alright, i just routed out for the pickups, and cleaned up the neck pocket/whole body side.
Neck fits in, but not enough to hold the body with, but im pleased as a i free handed it/first neck pocket. I tried to clamp a peice as a guide, and it actually slipped and took out .7mm out of the side :S. Is it possible to put epoxy or somethingin a neck pocket for a bolt on neck?

Back to the grind before sunlight goes. Ill post pics once the sun sets (1-2 hours?)

thank you, tomorrow before the zappa plays zappa concert i have to:
scrape the sides
drill holes for tom
drill hole between pup routes for cable
route out control panel
figure out where the neck bolts will go
countersink the neck ferrules.

and see where i go from there :P

how's the fretjob on the GFS? Need any leveling or anything? Any of them stick out?

its pretty nice, better then squiers. They arent gleaming or anything, im going to polish them up when i get the chance. Defiantly worth the 30$

Cool, I might pick one up for my own Tele build then.
it was fairly easy to shape the headstock too, which is always nice.
Anyone know if i have to put a finish on maple fretboards? I may just to get that tele look, but may not due to laziness :P

Routing is going good, made some adjustments (lower horn is deeper, all 21 frets are clear )
im getting a scraper and workbench tonight while im at ZPZ, so tomorrow i can clean up those routes and maybe drill the holes for ferrules/neck pocket.

you HAVE to have some kind of finish on a maple fretboard. A clear coat is preferred, but you can due a couple coats of oil if you wish. Though you will have to reapply more oil ever year or so.

what happens if i dont clear coat it? Looks like i am. Is there an easy way to cover the fret wires, or does it matter?

If you don't put a finish on it maple gets grimy as ****, and not in the good way like on a vintage guitar. Don't worry above covering the frets. Just steel wool them after the finish is set and they'll be fine.

This is looking pretty nice. Like the shaped heel and everythnig. Dunno if i'm so keen on the grain of that headstock veneer though.

i worked for 6 hours on it today, and should finish this week.
Today we got the neck on, shaped the heel to an AANJ, ferrules all set up, amke a contral cavity cover, inlayed the headstock, predrilled all screw holes, drawknife'd the arm contour and a little back contour too, and cut out the pup place for the neck in the pickgaurd.
It sounds so cliche, but the camera's batteries are dead and we cant find the charger Ill see if I can borrow one. Tomorrow after jazz I'll re-route eveything with a guide, and then start to wire it up. Stoked!

how'd you figure out where to put the ferrules?

i just roughed it and went with what i thought looked ok anglewise. Just make sure you have it straight with the bridge or it'd look funky

aww and i just found this thread and its already almost over... its like finding a movie you really want to watch right at the end and it isn't one again for months.... LAME. awesome build though, love the way the color scheme. Any significance of the headstock logo? looks vaguely familiar to me for some reason so hows it play and sound and such? excellent job on the control panel cover as well, I always hated how the rest of my tele looked pristine but my metal control panel cover always had finger smudges and the such, its like a pretty girl with two much eye liner . Anyways awesome job ill be stopping back to see the finished finished .

Thanks man! No real importance, i just sketched it on from my head, and the first sketch fit perfectly. Its secretly a J i
I wont be able to tell you untill its finished, but the neck is nice and smooth and nicely shaped.

Today i did 3 more layers of varnish. Body is done and needs 24 hours to completly harden, but the maplei s so thirsty and needs another 2-3
While the neck dries tomorrow, ill start the wireing/mounting hardware
