OK so my Vox VT30 broke on me, which means I am now without and amp (or at least... without a DECENT amp). The good news is I just got a crapload of money from graduation and my Eagle Scout ceremony so I'm going to actually try for a nicer amp this time.

Ideally this would be the kind of amp I want:
-All tube (not a hybrid)
-Combo
-More than one channel
-Loud enough for band practices/gigs
-Good cleans, that won't break up at loud volumes
-Overdrive/distortion that can handle a large number of genres (spanning from light blues/classic rock crunch to full on metal)
-Budget I'm willing to go to: $700-900

Now, obviously I probably won't find something that fits these EXACT requirements. Just to give an idea of what I'm looking for I suppose any help would be greatly appreciated

Well i just saw the Egnator Tweaker, looks pretty cool

if 15 watts is what you want, then this. easily the most versatile amp at 15 watts that i'm aware of.

but after reading the op more, i think a 40 watt jsx combo would be better for you. try a renegade if you can if you want to check out egnater.

Maybe it was just the new amps that were out of range (I admit I used Guitar Center's website for reference point x_x). The JSX was around $1500 for instance. I'll look into the used stuff I suppose xD

just try the amp out before loading it up, there are broken amps listed on craigslist with idiot sellers so test it out well.

that's kind of why I'm wary of craigslist :x I'll look into them but I'm rather skeptical as to WHY they'd be selling it

people sell amps for all kinds of reasons. usually to upgrade or try something different. i buy and sell stuff on criagslist all the time. at one point i was up to 8 amps i think at one time. (for me that's a lot, for others maybe not) but i always meet somewhere public that i can test the amp briefly to make sure everything works. train stations, bus stops, local pubs during the day that i've played at etc. but not everyone everywhere can do that. it's normal to want to test the amp out, any seller would want to do the same if buying so they should understand. if someone doesn't want to let you test it, for any reason, don't buy it. that's always a red flag.

of all the amps i've tested from craigslist, probably 20 in total, only two did not operate correctly and each time the seller stated they didn't play guitar and it wasn't their amp. fwiw.

bring someone with you and/or meet in a public place, is usually the way to go in my book. the bottom line is you can get a lot better gear for the money.
