I was just remembering something I read a while back which just said that you only need pretty much 3 chords to make a song and it just made me randomly think, in the music business, across all genres of music, which chord is used the most.

My music ear aint that good so I cant give my opinion, but in your opinion what do you think it is? or the 5/10 most used chords in music in your opinion?

I would put a poll but tbh there are like 2000+ chords and I can only have a max of 10 options so...yeah lol

That would depend on the style.

Funk (em9) will be different from thrash metal (E5)

Wouldn't an E5 be a dyad, not a chord?

Do people not put an octave in E5?

1 5 8 is still a something 5 isn't it?

A diad is a two note chord.

Right, so an E and a B is a dyad then. But what if you have the octave...

I've never heard someone say diad. Maybe because i don't play metal.

Most people do, but it's still a dyad because the octave is still the root. 1 5 8 is actually the same as 1 5 1.
Only play what you hear. If you don’t hear anything, don’t play anything.

I use them in my blues and jazz playing a lot My teacher just calls them intervals though, which isn't strictly correct.

Well this is a really crude way to put it, but it is called a powerchord.

Also in Guitar Hero they say a chord is two or more notes played together.

Well it's called wrong

You gonna catch hell for that last bit Not from me though.

Makes sense.

And by most used chord, do we mean an exact inversion? If not, definitely C.

Not entirely, just what is the most used chord in music, mainly out of opinion. I think if anyone figured that out for all chords (2000+) then you obviously have wayyyyyyy to much time on your hands lol
