I'm getting annoying crackling noise and I need a noise gate to go behind my distortion effects to block it out.
Are you running the distortion through a pedal or through a computer based effect?
Because if you're running through a board, a great solution would to be to get an iSP Noise Decimator. It's probably the best noise canceling pedal on the market (for normal musicians), and will take out basically any extra noise you can hear.
Otherwise, I have no idea.
I play guitar in a ska band.

My effects are all computer based.

I would use peavey's MK's great noise gate but that would just take up more processing power probably.
Ok, I put the VSTs in Peavey MK's VST holder after it's gate so that fixed the problem, and I might have had the input knob too high.
