Sounds a tad A7Xish which is good! Love the sweeps but they seem alittle slow. I think it could use alittle more bass it sounded abit empty. I didn't notice the drums being as bad as you said haha. The drums could use a little work maybe some more double kicks during the sweeps part. Other than that keep it up!

C4C!

Please crit my acoustic song

I would hardly call that progressive metal, it's all in 4/4

But it's certainly not bad.

and then there's free jazz, which isn't even for musicians.

As my old guitar teacher once said: Metal really comes from classical music. The only difference is pinch harmonics, double bass, and lyrics about killing goats.

Yeah, this isn't progressive at all. It sounds more akin to "Technical" metal, but it's not that technical either, but thats the vibe it seems to be leaning toward.

Anyway, it is a tad slow, maybe pep it up by 30-40BPM? 180 is epic, 140 is what I go by, but even it isn't "fast".

You also need to pan your guitars, double track or quad track to your liking by you need more space. I'd also stereo image the bass.

Songwriting wise, technique wise, everything sounds good, sounds alittle sloppy, but not too bad at all, as good or better than I could, lord knows I can't sweep for shit. lol

It was a good track though, has the potential to be much better if lengthened and produced right!

Hey Jonathan! I'm not a huge fan of Avenged Sevenfold, but I get what you mean. Thanks for the review! Yeah, I didn't have a real studio back in the day, and this was just done in Audacity without anything to clean it up.

As for your song, I'd really like to see the lyrics for it. I think if it was sung in the right way it could even sound Acid Bath-esque (When the Kite String Pops-era stuff like Scream of the Butterfly and Bones of Baby Dolls). I'm not sure the synth that came in around 2 minutes really fits with the song, but I do like the distorted guitar. What are the chords you used for this?

I have no clue on how im going to start writing lyrics. I guess I'll try putting lyrics to other songs over my song and see what pans out. Thnx for listening!

MadDogM,
Didn't like a couple of the rhythm guitar chords, but otherwise rhythm guitar sounds OK. The only thing I know how to sweep is my garage, so I can't do it half as well as you. Some of the playing could be tighter. I just know you're gonna get better with a bit more practice. I thought the drums were reasonably good. Sounds OK overall. Keep rockin' man!!
