Yeah, take it off and pull out one of the valves.

ahh ****... that like 12 scews :P ...

ok according to the forums they use good valves. according to there spec page on dt... well that page is useless and a hunk of shit.

on forums i found:

"We're using the Svetlana 6550.
This is the best currently made 6550 available.

We are still looking at options for the 12AX7 and 12AT7.
The Chinese versions sound the best but can have a tendency to be microphonic.
We may even go back to the JJ."

any help?

....?

The Dual Terror does not use 6550s. And whichever tube is the best available is a huge can of worms.

damn...
#16
Well 6550s arent EL84s so you don't have Svetlana's in there :P

Tubes can last anywhere from a half a year (new production EL34s) to decades. It depends on many factors, but really who cares. Once the sound starts going down hill you'll know it's time to replace. A retube will cost you around $40 - $100 so it's not a huge financial undertaking.

Svetlana aren't the best tubes by a long shot either, a Russian supercannon shot.

ok well when i get new valves what brand makes high quality EL84's

(dont worry bout price as i wanna get decent ones)

I'd for for JJ's. Winged C are good too. They are closer to the original Svetlana than the current Svetlanas are - which are Sovteks. Yet another trademark like TungSol, Mullard and many others that Sovtek bought and use.
I like JJ, especially for power tubes. Good European valves from the old Tesla factory in Slovakia.

All JJ power tubes I had so far crapped out on me. Okay, that's only three, but still.

Man, you must be one unlucky SOB. Stop kicking black cats.
