my band is goin into the studio soon, and some of the songs ive written feature harmonica. Anyway, the sound i really want to get out of it i can only describe by the one used in "love is strong" by the rolling stones. it starts in the first ten seconds, so you dont have to listen to the whole song..

I think most harp players would play the harmonica into a microphone plugged into a small, preferably tube amp cranked up to get some overdrive out of it. Something like an old Fender Champ or a Vox AC4TV would do the job nicely.
