Can anybody think of a song where a sudden ending worked well? I'm honestly struggling to think of one where it didn't irritate me.

What I mean is, the song has no form of outro; the last section of the song has no new material. Basically, a song that ends after a chorus or verse that was exactly the same as one earlier in the song.

I'm just wondering if anyone can find any.

Swim To The Moon - BTBAM

It was a bit irritating at first, but it doesn't bother me now.

Opium of the People by Slipknot.

Song really sucks, but the outro riff is pretty heavy. And it just kinda ends.

Speak to Me/Breathe - Pink Floyd.

The final line is "race toward an early grave..."

...and the song just ends. Totally appropriate, if you ask me. Genius, really.

Yeah, but then it runs into On the Run, I wouldn't really say it "ends" there.

And then it picks up again at the end of Time.

Pretty much. When compared to White Walls it seems pretty sudden imo.

Ever heard of a fade? Would this count as not having an outro?

But a sudden ending that is good is like I Want You (She's So Heavy) or Have a Cigar/Welcom to the Machine.

That always shat me. Badly.

Anyways, Type O Negative did it a lot with their songs, mostly for "comedic effect".

The Beatles - "I Want You (She's So Heavy)"

probably the best one I can think of.

EDIT: I was also beaten to the punch more than once. it really is a great use of the sudden stop. if I recall, it was one of the first as well?

I was thinking this as well. Funny how an 18 minute song can have a sudden ending though
