In september i am starting sixth form. I am doing music and my first assignment is to make an album with songs each person in the class has written. Now i have already got an album worth of songs so that bits out the way. Next is to perform a live gig funded by the school in order to promote and sell your album. I have never performed to an audience before with my band, and i was wondering if you guys could share past experiences and give me tips on how to just overcome the fear.

thanks in advance!

JacobTheMe tends to be an ass ignore that lol

Don't let a single negative thought in, and get really pumped beforehand. Make sure you've practiced your material enough so you have the confidence that everything will go smoothly and tell yourself that anyways. Because it will go smoothly just go on with a lot of energy and let that override any self doubt that might float into your head. You're going to have a blast.

Edit: and yes, that rush of fear and excitement happens pretty much every time. It's normal

when your practicing pretend your playing for a staduim full of people but its more important to
just relax and take deep breaths nothings worse than freaking out on stage.
also remember to have fun with it

i was thinking, in my garden we could set up, invite friends over to watch us perform, just to get used to that audience feel, does that sound like a good idea?

Start playing for people now. Get used to performing and handling mistakes in front of a smaller live audience. Once you get to the real thing, it'll be a cinch.

funny enough its said that sex can cure stage fright.

just man up and know that most people in the crowd unless theyre musicians (which they probably are and i missed that part but w/e) wont know if you make minor mistakes. As long as you practice hard and eat right you should be fine. There's a first time for everything!

Im an ass for explaining a simple question with a simple answer?

I still have to do a 1st gig...but I act onstage a lot. I figure it can't be much worse then that. So here's what I do.

1: Get pumped up Pass around some drinks (no alchohal, since this is your 1st gig you want to be sober or sure). Joke around, Listen to some tunes to get you pumped up. Do whaevert'll relax you and your band members why'll making you feel like you could kill a bull elepheant bare handed.

2: The Entrance Be confident and proud when you enter stage. Make eye contact with some audience members.

3: Performance Stick to the plan, no improv. If someone slips up don't stop, keep going. They'll correct themselves. And chances are if done right no one will notice. Also, just have fun. No one likes seeing a static singer or guitarist. Dance, smile, go nuts. Rock and metal is many things but boring isn't one of them.

4: Finale When your time on stage is done, thank the audience. Name off each band member. When you do give them a few seconds to go nuts on the instrument, take a bow, or do whatever. After that give your final ados and leave the stage. If you get an encore then just do it all over again and have fun with it.

Hope this helps. While not all of this stuff I know from acting experience I know it will help.

Good luck with the concert man, kick some ass, play your music as loud as hel, and may Dio watch over you
Have a good one,
Phoenix

Don't get nervous or silly. Be outrageously entertaining, dance around. Do a Texas Two-Step if you can't dance. Pull out your thing and wank (Unless its for school, that shit doesn't fly in school).

i concur with the tips put forward by this gentleman except the part about jacking it on stage, that ain't entertainment

Don't mind nervousness, it's just a sign that what you're doing matters to you.

Practice, practice and if you think you got it, practice more.

And when you're on stage LET IT GO, don't try to restrain yourself, but at the same time keep your head and have fun with it.
