could use pedals and stuff...

I really am surprised someone would be asking how to get a nice distortion from a Vox AC30.

Which version of the AC30 do you actually have?
I like analogue Solid State amps that make no effort to be "tube-like", and I'm proud of it...

...A little too proud, to be honest.

That thing's got a great master volume. Bridge the channels, turn the channel volumes way up, keep the master at wherever you have to.
A treble booster is always good with a Vox, but you shouldn't have to have a pedal to get great OD out of that amp.
