I'm in the process of writing and recording an album (still in the writing stage). Had a few songs I wrote in Power Tab and I'm finally finishing them, writing the drums and lyrics, the whole shebang. For the time being until I record the songs with my actual instruments, I'm releasing the demos I do on my computer.

So, here's the process... I export midis from Power Tab for the guitars and bass, then write the drums in TuxGuitar (I just started using it last month, and these songs have been in Power Tab for at least the past three years, if you want to know why I don't do it all in TG) and export that as a separate midi for just the drums. I then run the guitar/bass midi through Timidity++ and export as a wav file. Then I bring the tracks together in Reaper, using the shortcircuit VSTi for the drums.

These tracks don't sound as good as they will when I use actual instruments and do a proper mix (especially spiral, the guitars kinda ran together). The drums aren't mixed very well though they do sound better than simple midi. Anyhoo, I am looking for comments and criticism, especially the constructive kind.

About the tracks: Imperfect Angel is the album opener. It's an instrumental, and in the final version will have a solo over the last two repeats of the theme (just before the acoustic part). Betrayed is a song that I've actually recorded before, but I re-wrote a bit of it and did a complete re-write of the drums. The original demo can be found on my artist page link. Spiral is an acoustic instrumental I wrote when I got a 12-string a couple of years ago.

The final album will be ten tracks, and you could (if you were so inclined/interested) read about my progress on the whole thing on my profile blog.

Thanks!

I'm listening to Betrayed. This is a good song overall. However, the playing needs to be cleaned up immensely, as well as all of the harmonies. The recording quality is shit as well. I'm not trying to be a dick, but this is how I give my criticism. The composition is well done, but the recording itself needs a LOT of work.

You, good sir, have not gone over to your friends house after a hard night of drinking to find 2 dudes passed out in the same room both holding their own flaccid cocks in hand, passed out, with porn on the tv.

Hey, it's no problem. That was recorded five years agoon a Windows ME computer through a mic that was originally attached to a webcam. I recorded me playing through my amp and added drums using Hammerhead. I had no idea what clipping was at the time, so that (mixed with the crap mic) is going to lead to the recording itself to kind of suck. I probably did three takes of each riff (and that's speaking pretty liberally). I also agree that the harmonies blow chunks. I'm proud of what I accomplished with the crap I had, but listening to it these days makes me cring a little bit. I do appreciate the crit, however.

No problem man. You should record it again, I'd love to hear it in good quality.
