A harmonica in the key of C would play with a song in the key of G I believe.

I recently picked up a harmonica and it had a diagram at the back that showed which keys of harmonicas fit with particular musical keys.

A C harp will work for a G blues. This is known as cross-harp. A harp keyed a fourth up( or a fifth down) from the key of a blues works. G harp for anything just in the plain old key of G.

Technically, you can play any diatonic harmonica chromatically, but it takes some adjustment to the harmonica as well as learning a whole different technique.
