hey kids
recently my old practice amps started to get really buggy, so i thought as ive been playing for a while its time to step up anyway.
What is a decent valve amp head priced between 800 - 1200 Australian dollars?
so far im looking at the marshall ma50h, but any input would be awesome
thanks in advance

mainly hard rock sort of stuff so it wouldnt need litres of gain but a large amount wouldnt hurt

i also enjoy jamming around on blues and other lighter kinds of music, so it would need a good clean channel too

Try looking at the Egnater Rebel-30. Should be about perfect for what you need.

30 watts all valve is more than enough volume.

Maybe that's just me.

+1

its hard to belive that 30 tube watts is as loud as it is until you really turn it up yourself. i had my orange dual terror (30 watts all tube) at 75% volume on the overdirve channel the other day (just to see what it could do), and wow. it was just stupid loud. 30 tube watts would overpower any drummer i have ever played with , and more. if you ever needed more output than that at a gig, you would be mic's anyways.

also the rebel 30 is a great amp. i really am impressed with egnater's products.

alright thanks heaps guys, been a MASSIVE help
i think i've vaguely narrowed it down to the marshall ma50h or the second hand jcm dsl 2000

their both close to the same price, but a couple things vary
the jcm is a beast of an amp, but the single eq for both channels isn't really looking too nice
and the ma50h is brand new, whereas this has had 2 owners already

what do you guys think?

I would definitely suggest an used JCM dsl 2000.

The ma50h is one of the cheap Marshall heads that are less than great, unless you really like the tone of it, then go for it.

yeah im still yet to actual try them out in person so no real rush
but yeah, do any of you have the dsl 2000?
is the single eq band really that much of a problem for a live situation where there will be changing between channels?

I don't own a DSL but I can tell you that no, it doesn't cause a problem. The DSL is modded JCM800 according to Marshall and it's sorta true. That's why the DSL sounds better than a TSL. The DSL is a fine amp that would suit your needs to a T.
The JCA100 would be pretty sweet if you could afford it. If those were the two amps sitting in front of me to pick from at a gig, I'd be calling dibs on the JCA.
