i began writing my own material and i was thinking of posting it somewhere, but i dont know how to record it. Would i need special equipment to record it or do i just need a mic?

A mic(s), a mixer, recording software, and a computer.

That is what our band pretty much has

The rest comes down to experimenting with angle and distances of the mics as well as The EQs in the software and the mixer.

A mic and Audacity is all you need.

Good luck trying to hook an XLR mic into a mini jack...

Has nobody taken the time to see the UG recording videos and my post on using mixers for recording?

This guy knows what he's talkin about.

Also read though this:
http://www.tweakheadz.com/guide.htm

And in the pinned UG Recording Resources thread see the recording videos I've made. They are also linked in my sig.

It's not a normal microphone man. You probably are going to need a USB mixer if you want to use an xlr microphone.

I dont mean to be an a$$hat I just think that there should be a basic recording post stickies to avoid this same basic questions over and over again.

I've been here for four years and people ask the same exact question every single day.

you don't..........

ok ok, yea some people can get by with crap quality and latency but most can't.
If it's not important in terms of sound quality. Get a small analog Behringer mixer and run the main out to the mic port with a cable.

Mixer:

Cable:

Overall, though you're going to want to buy an audio interface. Search around the first page and see how others are getting started.

We do have those...both in posts and video format.
They are all linked in the resources thread pinned at the top of the page.

It's just nobody takes the time to even look down the first page to see that their question has already been asked and answered many times per day.........it really is annoying.
