The titles pretty self explanatory. What covers songs do you think are better than the original songs?

My favorites include:
1)Born to Run-Originally by Bruce Springsteen, cover by Frankie Goes to Hollywood
2)Where Did You Sleep Last Night? Originally by Leadbelly, cover by Nirvana
3)Jesus Don't Want Me for a Sunbeam-Originally by the Vaselines, cover by Nirvana
4)All Along the Watchtower-Originally by Bob Dylan, cover by Jimi Hendrix
5)Hurt-Originally by Nine Inch Nails, cover by Johnny Cash

A lot of the stuff on RATM's Renegades, Clapton's version of I Shot the Sheriff and there's a whole load that I prefer being done by friends, just singing with an acoustic or whatever.
The UG Awards exist only to instill me with existential doubt.

For me, the 60's ended that day in 1978...

I love Rufus Wainright's version of Hallelujah

Ooh and the cover of "With a Little Help from My Friends" (or whatever it's called) that was on the Wonder Years' theme. That version is way better than the Beatles' original. And that's hard to do.

NIN's version hits me waaay more and in a most disgustingly dark way.

Drug abuse/depression is not about sadness, it's about pain, dissonance...

Johnny Cash's version is just too plain to my taste.

Shadows Fall did an awesome cover of Pink Floyd's Welcome to the Machine. As far as PInk Floyd covers it is the best in a long line of complete f**f ups.

I hate to say it, but David Cook's version of Lionel Richie's "Hello" was wayyyy better, IMO.

Respect to Lionel though.

He's not saying that it's the heaviest thing or fastest thing around, but it was just groundbreaking in both of those aspect and by such virtue legendary. It's like saying, "It's heavier than Victim of Changes?" Of course there are things heavier than Judas Priest's second album, but the "legend and aura" of the album/song itself is what makes it stand up against things that would be technically more heavy.

Tainted Love - Originally by Soft Cell, covered by Marilyn Manson

That's a cover of a cover, son. Original is a soul song recorded by Gloria Jones in 1964, 17 years before Soft Cell did it.

On topic, Hellsongs' cover of Seasons in the Abyss is much better than the original.

I'm not a big fan of Zep. I appreciate how influential they are and all, and if someone puts them on I won't complain...but I don't go looking for 'em.

Tool's version just gave it another edge that spoke out to me.
