Pretty awesome

Dave Crisp, a hospital chef, came across the buried treasure while searching for "metal objects" in a field near Frome, Somerset in southwestern England. Initially, Crisp found 21 coins, but when he unearthed the pot, he knew he needed archaeological help to excavate them. The hoard contains 766 coins bearing an image of the Roman general Marcus Aurelius Carausius, who ruled Britain independently from AD 286 to AD 293 and was the first Roman emperor to strike coins in Britain.

Doesn't that belong to the state as a historical artifact?

Yeah.

That's cool, and good for him, but he won't see any money from it. It's not his.

I live near Frome, wish I'd found some ancient coins

Idk, sell them on one of those shows where people tell old people how much their old china set is worth.

edit: Well get a range for what they're worth on there, then sell on the black market. Boo ya!

Now I will redirect my anger to the French illustrator of that comic book.

IIRC the State will check if any museum wants them, and if they do they will compensate him for the approximate monetary value of the coins. I'm not sure that they have to, but it is the done thing.
