I've been looking at these two distortions and i'm wanting to get a more metalcore type really heavy chug tone. I need something around the 100 dollar range and i would like to know if you guys had used these and had any opinions. If you have a completely different pedal you think is better let me know. Thanks in advance.

Check out the Hardwire Metal Distortion. I was absolutely sold on the Fullbore until I looked at it.
Kodiak bears make awesome bandmates.

I've had the Boss Metalcore since they came out and i love it. You get a good range of distortion from it and i love the low end brutal stuff.

Barber Dirty Bomb or a used Keeley modded MT-2. The Metal Core and Full Bore are both terrible IMO but the Metal Core is the less offensive of the two.

Tried the Fullbore and thought it good for what it was. Haven't tried the Metalcore, but have used plenty of Boss distortions before. They sound good on smaller amps at bedroom levels, but don't sound so hot IMO through something like a 100 watt head.

If you're going to be using either the MXR or the Boss for low level, bedroom practice stuff, then either of those pedals will work fine. If, on the other hand, you're going to be playing at practice levels, then, you might want to try something like a tube screamer then.

What's your budget? Neither of those are particularly popular around here, you might be able to find something better

the fullbore sounds like a can of angry bees to me. there are much better, more natural sounding pedals on the market.

The MetalCore gets a lot of criticism on here, I used to have one and thought it was alright, only sold it because I replaced it with a Blackstar HT-Dual.

The HT-DistX is a great distortion pedal for metal, but a bit on the pricey side. The Dirty Bomb and the Hardwire are nice too.

I just looked at the modded mt-2. what is the difference?

They both suck!!!

I have a V22 so I kind of know what you are working with to start.

I use a tube screamer....best OD I have ever used..all the fake distortion pedals just sound to fake IMO.

I also run a 10 band eq in the f/x loop and honestly I think that had a bigger impact on the overall tone and heaviness that I could get out of the amp.

Better parts, circuit variations here and there to improve the sound. Doesn't sound as much like bees as the original.

good advice.

Fullbore metal
I stand by it with everything
I won't lie it's ok until you tweak it
And then it's amazing. It took me around thirty minutes of jamming to figure it out to how I like it. Soundss good through my peavey xxl
Though the metal core sounds good when it's sent through an eq pedal. I swear by the mxr though

also, keep in mind, the v55 probably has a lot less gain on tap than say the 6260, 333xl, or 1990.

using more than one overdrive might be the way to go. Maybe a TS9 paired with the metal core or something

I think pairing the distortion on my amp+overdrive+distortian pedal sounds like the worst idea EVER

The metal core is really only good for one certain sound imo. The metal core will give you the sound of entombed, as thats the pedal they used for their sound.

Example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vkpZ1tPCSJ4

kind of makes me want to get one

They used the HM-2 Heavy Metal, not the Metalcore.

The Metalcore isn't a reissue of the HM-2.

no, what i think he is implying (atually the only thing that makes sense) is boosting the OD channel on your amp with an OD pedal.

i use a tubescreamer to boost my valveking into brootal territory.

i use a MI audio blues pro to boost my dual terror into brootal territory.

you have a decent budget tube amp, which has a decent overdrive, and it would be a waste to get a distortion pedal to use on the clean channel. it would be selling yourself short on tone.

get some type of tubescreamer, maybe an EQ as well and boost it. you will get it to sound metal, don't worry about that.

You best be trollin' niqqa.

The ML-2 is a new design, it didn't exist when Entombed did.
Entombed are old. HM-2s are old.

I'm pretty positive they used the Heavy Metal.

actually from what I just read, they used the HM-2 in the early days and the ML-2 in the later days, both in conjunction with eachother and/or a DS-1.
#26
They haven't recorded any albums since the ML-2 was released. Only their most recent one was released after Jan 2007. It seems very unlikely they've ever used it.

Not that it really matters, LHP is the one that everyone wants to ripoff.
