ok so atm, at lunchtimes, at school, i set the amp up. i get my guitar, tune up, and play, as you would. now, normally im called away for something for 5 mins or so or something requires me to go get something etc, and its pretty unavoidable, but when i come back, someones either messing with it, or playin with it or generally being annoying.

its not an every day thing, but its common enough to be very annoying.

any ideas? i know the answer is probably obvious, but i cant think of anything; once i actually wrote out a note sayin please dont touch the guitar etc, nothing. i still wanna be able to practise.

thanks =]

Leave it at home to practice?

Practising in front of everyone's pretty attention-seeking. Just take the guitar with you when you walk to other places if you want to keep everyone away from it.

pick up a wangcaster..see how many people wanna touch that

Seriously people actually practice guitar at school? Where I live if I practiced playing guitar during breaks I'd get beaten up.

IMO that should happen to the threadstarter

there's plenty of things to do

- don't bring your guitar to school
- bring a case, put your guitar in there and lock it
- before leaving, ask to someone to take care of it
- keep the guitar with you and never leave it alone
- tell people you don't want them to touch your guitar

Im sorry, but I had to comment, what your saying is your leaving your guitar out in the open, at a school , and you dont want anyone to touch it? Very well then, its just as well you said "im going to play music now, but I DONT want you to listen" its inevitable bro, just pack it away for another delightful time where no one will touch er. and play your little heart out!

Barbed wire? Maybe even an electric fence sort of thing, although they could probably just unplug that...

lol im not an attention seeker; they have a music studio, and ther are often a couple of other guitarists and musicians, and we jam, and it does say not to bother us in there (people used to just screw about and the others got annoyed), but people come in at random, and its pretty annoying :P its the only real oppourtunity we get to play togther in a group because eall live quite far apart from each other

so you cant practice at home if you take your guitar to school expect people to want to mess with it

so take a left handed guitar to school people that know how to play guitar will try once and walk away as a failure and never try again
happens with my guitars all the time
this doesnt work with people that dont know how to play

Don't take it in, or keep it wth you at all times. Some idiot got my guitar out in lesson and start hitting the strings with his hands saying "I'm a guitarist" and making retarded noises.

At this time I was using Super Slinky strings and had a high action.
He snapped a string and cut his arm.

You did say you get it out at lunchtime. I assumed that means you just whip it out in the cafeteria/wherever you have lunch.

My advice: Pack it away or just don't worry about it.
Only play what you hear. If you don’t hear anything, don’t play anything.

Bring a crappy guitar to school, one that you wouldn't mind people messing with.

Or booby trap it, Like the sword in the movie Blade (where the knives pop out the handle and mess up the dudes hand)

Can't you just put it out of sight? Or ask someone to mind it? Or spread a rumour that it's gay and once got an erection in a P.E changing room and make it a social outcast?

I understand where you are coming from, but theres no way to keep everybody from trying to mess with your shit short of keeping it where nobody even knows it exists. I got so fucking sick of my "friends" trying to do stupid shit, like tuning my starcaster (my first guitar) down to drop-C and just leaving it that I took it home and left it there.

yeah i suppose, its nice that someone didnt assume i was attention seeking: if the didnt consider that maybe the school had a studio theyre a bit thick...

yeah i know what you mean: its just i dont get much time at home, and its the only chance to play music with others, which is pretty much my form of socialising :P

cool, thanks

No. How many of you went to school with studios in that you could access at lunch? Raise your hands? I know I didn't. My first thought was some dildo rocking out in the cafeteria.

1. Get a case
2. Put your guitar in the case
3. Lock the case.

Indeed.

Well, we had a studio... but you weren't allowed to use it at lunch. Or ever.

I was expecting better tips. I always have people touching it when I whip out, it is so anoying. And I already have a wangcaster. Esspecially in the men's bathroom things get pretty ackward.

To be fair guys, I don't really see what's wrong with playing your guitar at school. It might seem like "attention whoring" but it's good practice to play in front of others right? Sometimes I play my classical when I'm out at the park, I don't want to attention *****, I just think it's good practice to play in front of others, you're on the spot, people are listening and judging, so it's a good way to eliminate the animosity and the nerves in live situations.
