Is it normal to have to grip the pick so close to the tip that you can't even see it when trying to hit a PH? I have been practicing them for a couple days now and it seems I can't get the string to hit my thumb even when aggressively picking and holding it normal. Thanks.

Yes I was rude, and I was aggressive and I was offending a large group of people. But I was civlized about it.

Find what works for you. If choking up on the pick helps you, then go for it. But also when you hold the pick like that you want to make sure that you don't accidentally play pinches when playing normal notes. Once you get used to it, you don't even think about the fact that your thumb touches the string, you just do it.

Junior's usually at least a little terse, but he knows his stuff. I've always read his posts in a grouchy grandfather voice, a grouchy grandfather with a huge stiffy for alternate picking.
Besides that, he's right this time. As usual.

Have you tried rolling your wrist when hitting the Pinch harmonic? that always helps with me,
if I'm playing something fast that has pinch harmonics in i sometimes keep my wrist at an angle,

that's my way and it seems to work for me

hope that helps

Isn't that over doing it?
Anyways, when i first started out,
1 pluck string
2 put my thumb near it but not touch it
3 bend the string till it touched my thumb.

This worked better because bending the string with your left hand is slower and more controlled than moving your right thumb. Then as i got better, now i can do pinch harmonics anywhere without bends

I see I see...

I just watched that video from Rob Chappers and he suggested holding the pic at an angle. I'll give all these a shot. Thanks.
