I'm really into that sort of stuff at the mo and were looking for some awesome suggestions. Stuff like Telegraph Road, Brothers in Arms (both by Dire Straits). Nothing overly complex. I'm a big fan of "less is more" and all that. Fire away.

My pleasure. Also I can't believe I've forgotten about Jeff Buckley.
These next ones aren't exactly electric but could be played on one:

Rolling Stones - "Angie", "As Tears Go By"
Blind Pilot - "3 Rounds and a Sound"
Bob Dylan - "If You See Her, Say Hello", "Blind Willie McTell", "I'm Not There", "One More Cup of Coffe", "Most of the Time"
Bright Eyes - "Landlocked Blues"
Carey Brothers - "Blue Eyes"
Modest Mouse - "Custom Concern" (This one is electric)

You should check out some of Axel Rudi Pell's stuff:

He has 3 albums of ballads, usually with piano and symphonic elements as well but always with plenty of those emotional guitar lines you're aiming for.

Always Somewhere by the Scorpions. Maybe RHCP's Stadium Arcadium?
