I've been hired for a wedding on August 14th. The bride wants an acoustic guitarist (Me.) to play "Somewhere Over the Rainbow", and she's paying $100-$200. Great, right? Well, that's what I thought, until I read that there's likely going to be an hour timeslot for me.

Pit, most of the songs I know and can play at the drop of a hat are too sad for a wedding. Will you help me think of some songs I could play? (I don't know if I'll be singing or not, but it's not a problem if I am.)

Requirements:
- Acoustic, or must be able to be transposed to acoustic guitar easily. (From any instrument.)
- No classical guitar, the bride has requested more modern music.
- Not ridiculously difficult, I am experienced in most styles of guitar but I'm not Al frickin' Di Meola.
- I Cum Blood is not an option, I hope we're over that goddamn song.

this is a really good suggestion. also try classical guitar arrangement of pachabel's canon in D, that's a good wedding song.

More than words- Extreme
From this moment-Shania Twain

I played these for a wedding, good crowd pleaser songs.

A single acoustic guitar's going to be a bit thinly textured over an hour isn't it?

No classical, apparently the bride hates it.

Well quite!

I'm thinking for your own sake, just try and get some tonal variation in there. I'd suggest some "pickless" jazz, you know, very much smooth, relaxed jazz.

Thanks for the suggestions, guys. Youtube's being a bitch for me right now so I haven't been able to listen to anything, but I'll be sure to learn a lot of these. I was also thinking about doing some of David Gilmour's solo work.

My Best Friends Girl- The Cars

But seriously. Try a few John Mayer songs, a Tom Petty song couldn't hurt here or there. Heck, they even played Blink-182 at a wedding I went to.

John Mayer might work, I think

Wait, you get payed $100-$200 per song or for the hour?
You can always improv. something and sing lyrics of yours (if you have). Or let part of the hour be an instrumental of some sort. This method works for the lazy kind of people (Includes me)
