Just saw this over at another forum. But I will make the announcement with gleeeee.

Alright kids,

Dave Friedman of Rack Systems - amp consultant to the stars, including but not limited to Slash, Eddie Van Halen, and Jerry Cantrell; Evil Mastermind behind the Marsha and Naked hi-gain Marshall on a 12 day pcp bender amps; Inventor of the Marshall Brown Eye, Hairy Brown Eye, and Kitchen Sink modifications
--fun fact 1: Dave Friedman designed Slash's rack, planned his signal chain, and check upped the amps on Slash's solo tour.
--fun fact 2: Slash does not use the fx loop on his amps. He runs a delay out front.
details here: http://www.rig-talk.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=57&t=66767

has teamed up with

Jet City Amplification, brain child of Mike Soldano, Andy Marshall, and some other old dude
fun fact 1: Mike Soldano designed the SLO 100 used or almost used by - SRV, Warren Hayes, Steve Vai
fun fact 2: Andy Marshall looks like a teddy bear.

to declare that.....

It's just over. the 20watt high gain wars. they are over. done. all your bases belong to us.

He's offering the Jet City 20 with the nut busting brown eye mod. loop optional.

Seriously. Absolutely nothing will compete with that for the price. And with what I assume used prices will be like, it is indeed over. The Brown Eye modded Plexi clone I played was killer. Maybe not super br00tz high gain but with a boost it was there. Early VH tones came easy. And with the added QC and ruggedness of Dave Friedman, there's no way Bugera will hold a candle to these.

I just updated the post with more info and clips. My first completely cereal thread ever. But for serious. blackstar...done. bugera 20watters...done. Tiny terror as much as I love you...done.

You guys didn't think Grandpa Mike forgot about ya'll. Boutique...it doesn't get more boutique then Friedman. Affordable. clap. clap. clappityclappityclapapapappa. tremelo clapping.

That pretty much puts paid to my idea of making an amp tailor made to the Aussie pub circuit. That's pretty much it. I've never seen anybody selling JCA over here but the writing's on the wall. Somebody will wise up and start importing them eventually. Then again, in Australia they'll probably ask $1000 for 'em. Still, risky.
I'll go back to building weird shit instead.

Min, if you want to add more credits there's a ton more over on the forum over there. He's got Brad Paisley's rack, Steve Stevens massive rig, Mark Tremonti's rig and more. And fun fact 3: Slash uses 6550s in his clean Jubilee.

I know CAE is still doing some rack stuff but friedman might be single-handly making racks totes cool again.

I didn't want it for myself. I was thinking of selling them. But if that niche is filled I'll end up with costly doorstops.

I doubt that RackSystems could make enough of them to actually bring more then a couple to oz every month. You know what you have to do. Bugera it.

Sounds interesting, but if I ever get any money together and decide to go for another amp I can always get a Mark III... for some reason they go for less than $500 fairly regularly on my Craigslist.

Well that's the point, AM. Bugeras are expensive here, a handbuilt amp could undercut them AND be better. Remember, I am talking about targetting it at a niche audience. Aussie pub rock. I am sure all the Aussies around here can relate.

To reiterate, I don't need an amp for myself. My Abbey is the duck's guts. In fact I'd be borrowing some ideas from it.

Ah. I get ya. I have a circuit designed already ripping off things I like. I found some really cool 3pdt relays that fit into an octal looking socket I'm keen to incorporate. I will still build something but it's viability as a small business is looking shaky. Time will tell.
And I'd want to build them myself. That's the fun part.

That sounds AMAZING. There still seems to be some nasty hum in there, but that's heresay with tone as excellent as that.

Thanks for the thread, mate.

Also, any news of whether this is going to be an American option only?

There's something I can't quite put my finger on that I don't like about the JCABE clip....

I really have no idea what it is but there really is something I don't like about it. It might just be the mic or the recording, but there's something there. But, that sounds sick, and I can't wait to try one out for myself.

Comparing the clips of the modded one from Rig Talk to Catharsis' unmodded ones, I prefer it unmodded. Not as fizzy or hollow. Of course, that's not really a fair comparison. Maybe you can get both AM and do a proper comparison?
