I'm looking for someone to build me a guitar. I'm well aware that I'll probably get some stick, but I want them to make me a Mattocaster (MB-1 clone). I don't think I'll go as far as putting a Kaoss Pad in, but a fuzz factory and sustainer will probably go there. Does anyone know of some reasonably priced luthiers who would take something like this on in the UK? Ideally I'd be looking to spend around £1500. The only one I've come across is MD Guitars from somebody's YouTube channel where they had one made, although there are two, so they might have used the American one.

Also, I would need one down South (Hampshire/Surrey area) who would install a sustainer into my RG.

Thanks.

there's one that would do it in birkenhead by me called KGB-music (sounds like some russian hitmen but it's not... sadly) but that might be too far away for you. why don't you google "luthiers in hampshire/surrey" and see what google says??
Belief is a beautiful armour but makes for the heaviest sword.

Unfortunately a google like that doesn't really come up with much - they all seem to be acoustic specialists down here. I dropped Feline an email (Croydon I believe) but they've not got back to me yet.

i think legra made someone a guitar like matt bellamy's. it should be on the bareknuckle forum if you do a search. I'm not sure about being under £1500, it's going to depend on the spec etc.

I'll have to put the Classic T models on my to-try list. Shame the finish options there are Anachronism Gold, Nuclear Waste and Aged Clown, because in principle the plaintop is right up my alley.

Presumably because the CCF (Combined Corksniffing Forces) of MLP and Gibson forums would rise up against them, plunging the land into war.

not often it's cheaper to get a custom replica guitar than to buy the original... Damn you Bellamy!

thats it,

they are the guys who are teaming up with Rob Chapman right?

i would give them a look, he would probably be able to do you a Matt'ocaster copy, without the midi stuff for sure.

Jaden Rose is indeed doing the Chapman Ml-2 at the moment. I've considered chatting to him - could be worth a look. There's also a guy I found on a Muse forum who has made copies before who would be willing, but again, fairly dear.

I did stumble across Guyton as well - is it just me or does this look a lot like a left handed MB-1

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm still umm'ing and aahing over this. If I did it would be awesome, but equally it'll be sinking a lot of cash into it.

On a side note - how come this didn't show up as having new responses? I only spotted the last ones when I happened to look at the post count.

Ran look pretty good, but I have a feeling it would get very expensive once shipping and import taxes were taken into consideration.

I had considered that Skinny, but at the end of the day it's still only a Squier. I'd still have to get a sustainer put in, which would be around £400 parts and labour at Mansons prices and then a refinish and it would be similar to a custom made instrument.

I'll have a look at DM - the work is pretty tasty.

Even though £800 is very high (espesially for a squire) It will probally end up sounding the same as whatever else you get. Even so I agree with you, if you're going to be paying a similar price there is no point getting something thats not perfect, especially for that amount of money.

shouldn't be any import taxes from poland, it's in the EU.

But the prices have gone up a lot recently. Haven't tried any, either.

Palm to my face. I just misread and thought it was Canada for some reason - they don't even look similar.

Sustainer's aren't that hard to fit, they go in like a regular pickup, and you can get them for around 100 quid shipped, so thats an option. Theres a guy somewhere on Youtube who bough a Yamaha Pacifica 120, shaped the horn a little bit (minor cosmetic work), painted it black and had a smaller shop put the FF into his guitar for him, and that cost him, all up, $800 US, and that includes buying a fuzz factory and the guitar.
#24
I certainly can't say how much he'd charge for the kind of thing you're talking about, and I can't speak to the price of shipping and taxes, but I own 4 Jon Kammerer guitars, and the guy is a class act. He's just outside of Chicago, Ill.

And his stuff reasonably priced.

Driskill Guitars in Fort Worth, Tx. is another guy who does good work.

The biggest problem with going down the Yamaha route (and I agree, that would certainly be the cheapest, even if it did need routing for a Sustainer) is that the 120 is blooming difficult to find these days. As far as I can tell they only do strat/superstrat's now.
