Hey what do you guys think of the Tourmaster and the Renegade? and tell me there differences in tone and gain levels? Also i do know the Renegade has the tube mix and the Tourmaster does not
#87
Hey everyone, I'm having trouble trying to figure out what's going on with my Tweaker. One of the tubes isn't working, but the amp seems to be operating perfectly. Details in the thread:

You were right. Here's Greg's NAD. He tried it out with 6L6s.

https://www.ultimate-guitar.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1313406

Egnater has stated that the Tweaker can be run with 6V6GT, 5881, 6L6GC, EL84, KT66, and KT77 tubes. It is a cathode biased amp, so there is no bias pot to adjust. This doesn't mean the bias will be "optimal" for all of the tubes, but they can all be run in the amp.

hey i took a couple days off UG.

glad you guys got it all figured out. i didn't know about the kt66s, egnater verified the kt77s for me. i still have not gotten them but once john finishes my wah he's sending me a pair of 77s.

Do you mean EL84s? I don't think the Tweaker would take EL34s!

Just put a new speaker, WGS Veteran 30, into a Kustom 1x12 cab and my REbel 20 head absolutely kills now. Super sweet cleans and great punchy vintage rock tones.

yea i still prefer them for what i use it for. they have the best growl for lack of a better word.

i've been messing with the old british 34s and the new EH russian 34s. putting one of each and stuff. on their own the EH tubes hold up to the old ones pretty well. for the money they sound great.

did you put 34s in? if so what kind?

Okay, quick question for those of you with a lot of Renegade experience (I've only sat down and messed with it a little bit, and I didn't try out High Gain tones). Can this amp pull off Metal with a TS9 in front of it? Not necessarily super duper heavy stuff, but maybe some Dream Theater type sounds?

It would be nice if I could play some super duper heavy stuff with it...but its not a requirement.

shit happens, it may thin out here as college starts back up. a lot of guys are heading back to school and for whatever reasons, don't continue to post.

i'm sending CrackTheSky some tubes for his tweaker, he needed a 6v6 and i had a spare stock one. i threw in a set of 34s that i got free and an extra 12ax7. my tweaker blew a 12ax7 last week. it was in v2 fwiw.

That sucks. I guess I've been pretty lucky with my Rebel....I've had it for almost 8 months now, and I've had no problems...but I haven't really gigged with it or anything...so we'll see how it does when that time comes.

In the meantime, I'm saving up for that Renegade. I love my Rebel, but I feel very limited by the lack of a second channel. Plus the extra gain that the Renegade has would be very nice.

yea it was the only stock preamp tube i had in it. i had changed the other two but left V2 alone. probably just a bad sovtech. i had another laying here i ripped out of something so i'm all good.

the renegade was nice, i need to head to GC again and spend more time with it.

I'm torn though...there's so many things about Mesa/Boogie that I love. The main ones being the amazing metal tone, and the fact that their factory is about a half an hour drive from my house...

Just something about Egnater though...brand loyalty I guess.

the renegade i feel has enough gain, depending on how much you want you might want to look at a boost, but i feel it has the wrong tone/feel for that kind of music. i sat down with one for a very long time the other day at GC and came to this conclusion. it felt very weird. i think its more of a hard rock/blues/classic rock amp, which you could pretty much draw from the way the amps look and where bruce is coming from. he says he designs each amp with a particular tone in mind, and i think that is it.
